Heard outside my door (earlier):

Male: "Am I the drunkest bastard on campus?"
Female: "Have you thrown up? Are you going to throw up again?"

Male: "There are 14 of us, but we drank 16 bottles of Chardonnay."

And later...

Paramedic: "Get up. If you're a big enough girl to get drunk, you're a big enough girl to get up".

Yes, that's right, a paramedic. After I heard the first quotes, I put my earphones on and continued to work on my Spanish paper. (Again, I went out earlier. I promise, I'm not a complete hermit.) Sometime between then and now, the group of people outside my door realized that one of their friends was only semi-conscious, and would only open her eyes or show signs of life every so often if they shouted her name loudly. They called security, who called the paramedics. The paramedic reminded the semi-conscious girl's friend (who was accompanying them to the hospital) to bring shoes and a jacket for when the girl would be able to come back to campus. So that means she should be okay.

But really, I can't imagine drinking so much that I literally pass out. That my blood is filled with so much poison that only my basic bodily functions can continue, but nothing else. I suppose if you consume enough alcohol quickly enough, you get to that point without realizing it is coming. But still. Scary.

I'm not against drinking. But drinking to that extent is just stupid. (And this girl was not a tiny girl. She's tall and not super-skinny, I'd say about 150 pounds or so, so it's not like a couple drinks got her to this point. She has to have drank a lot of alcohol to get to the point where she passed out.)

One of my professors always starts her class emails with “Dear Class,”. I always find it hilarious, and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s something about the formality. I don’t know. But it never fails to make me laugh. And I’m pretty sure she’s not trying to be funny.

Cons of today (so far): I decided last minute to go to breakfast, because I really wanted some oatmeal and coffee-mixed-with-sugar-coffee. (Sugar coffee is the coffee that comes out of machines, like "French Vanilla". It's really sweet, so I mix it with regular coffee.)
When I got to the dining hall, I got a bowl and went to get oatmeal. There was a sign that said "Out of Order". How can it be out of order?! They don't make the oatmeal for you. There is a box of Quaker Oats. You pour it into a bowl, add milk or water, and microwave it yourself!
Then, I went to get my coffee-mixed-with-sugar-coffee. There was a sign that said "Out of Order". That one I can understand being out of order, theoretically. But, I went to breakfast and they had neither of the two basic things I wanted. *Insert complaining here.*

Pros of today: The library didn't make me pay a fine on my overdue interlibrary loan book. Yay.

All this excitement before noon. Who knows what else will come of this day...

No matter what I do, I cannot remember to return library books on time! I have a book interlibrary-loaned. It was one day late. I carried it around in my backpack ALL day today. Fifteen minutes ago (at 1:15AM) I realized I had forgotten to return it, and the library closed at 1:00AM. Darn. Now it's two days late. There go $2.00 in fines. Hopefully I'll return it tomorrow...

In 24 hours, I will be done with my Psychology paper, in which I have to do a write-up of an experiment that I never did. And I have to include results and tables. Yuck yuck yuck. I have less than two pages so far. I need about ten. Why do I do this to myself?! ("This" being leave things until the list minute.)

Sometimes I decide I can't do any more homework until someone emails me. And then I just wait and wait. Procrastinating my life away. It's not a very good strategy.

Report from the Spanish paper front:
There is a word in Spanish that means "verbal diarrhoea". One word, "verborrea" translates as "verbal diarrhoea". The things I learn...

(I was not looking up the word "verbal diarrhoea". I was looking up the word "verbal" to make sure it wasn't a false cognate. It's not. "verbal" in Spanish is the same as "verbal" in English.)

People always complain about the letter labels wearing off on their Macintosh keyboards. My computer, despite its many faults, does not have that problem. I can see which keys I have used most often because the key is smoother and more worn (I type the space-bar with my right hand just about all the time, I'm a frequent user of the 'a', which I type toward the bottom of the key, and the 's', which I type at the top of the key, along with the 'e', 'r', and 't' which I type in the middle of the keys), but all of the letter labels are still bright white.

(This is another entry, brought to you by the wonderful Spanish paper of the weekend.)
