Calling - and hanging up on - the members of the offending group seemed like a good idea at 10:30 when we made the decision. It didn't seem like such a good idea when I woke up to my alarm going off at 2:56 AM.

But seeing the male college student in big fuzzy soccer ball slippers made it all worth while.

As I've probably mentioned, I am a Student Advisor this year. I am in charge of my hall, help the first-year students, and make sure everyone on my floor is alright. We have been having training for about a week now.

The dorms are all very small; each dorm usually houses between 40 and 70 students. The dorms are formed into clusters. Each cluster has a Residence Life Coordinator. The RLC is in charge of the cluster, and helps the SAs who are in charge of floors in their dorms. The clusters all have different names, playing on the names of the dorms involved, or just creating an acronym. We live in SDKL. To one side of us is LCM. Across campus from us is JPO.

Tonight the SAs and RLC from SDKL were in a lounge having a meeting. Earlier, my RLC had phoned the RLC of JPO and agreed to having a "friendly rivalry" with her cluster. We forgot about them, and went on with the meeting. One person left the meeting a few minutes early because she wasn't feeling well. She returned moments later with a surprised look on her face.

"LCM STOLE OUR DOORS!" she shouted.

They what? We all ran to our rooms. Everyone in SDKL who had left their doors unlocked (which is a majority of people on my campus), no longer had a door. Those of us who had locked the door (myself included) simply had messages written in chalk on our doors. "LCM was here!" one proclaimed.

We were in a confused shock. Our doors were missing!! Gone! Poof! No more door! We all ran back outside, tossed out comments involving toilet paper and chalk, and ran back into our dorms to retrieve these two items. We then ran to the LCM cluster of dorms. Through a window, we could see that the SAs and RLC were still in their meeting. We took advantage of this, and ran into one of the dorms. We then proceeded to remove the mattresses from all of the SA's rooms whose doors were unlocked. The mattresses were placed in the showers. The rooms were covered in toilet paper. (I learned that I am not very good a TPing. Something I never knew was a skill that had to be mastered, and instead thought that everyone was born knowing.) We ran out of the first dorm, and into the second. We began the same ritual - removal of the mattress, placing of the mattress in the shower, and covering of the room in toilet paper.

"Guys, what are you doing?" shouted the person's room who we were currently destroying.
"You stole our doors!" someone in my group accused.
"What? What are you talking about?" he replied, looking genuinely confused.
"Our doors..." Someone replied.
"I didn't steal your doors! What are you going to my room!" he shouted back.

And then it came to us. We ran down the stairs, and out of the dorm. Once we got outside, we saw them. The student staff of JPO. Walking toward us. Laughing. Smiling and laughing.

And then it hit us again, stronger this time. The realization that we had made a mistake. It had not been LCM that stole our doors, and wrote in chalk outside our dorms. It had been JPO. Our "friendly rivalry" had, in fact, not been very friendly at all. They had stolen our doors, and blamed it on LCM. We had been tricked, and the tricking had succeeded. We had thought that LCM stole our doors, automatically reacted by covering their rooms in toilet paper and putting their mattresses in the showers, when really the doors had been removed by JPO.

Half of my group started chasing JPO. The other half (myself included) went back to LCM to start cleaning up our mistaken mess. While walking back there, the RLC from LCM passed us, with the angriest look on her face I have ever seen. It was terrifying. The problem was, she didn't know what had happened. She kept walking past us, looking for our RLC. We kept going back to the LCM dorms, to clean up our mess. We put the mattresses back on the beds, made them, and removed the toilet paper from the rooms.

While we were cleaning up, the RLC from LCM walked in, and we explained what had happened. We explained how JPO had stolen our doors, blamed it on LCM, and we had reacted, albeit hastily. Her furiously angry face moved almost imperceptibly into a very angry face.

We all approached her again in her apartment (which is in one of the dorms) when we were done cleaning up. We again explained what had happened. How we had been fooled. How we hadn't meant to start a war. How we had behaved rashly. How we were really really really sorry. How we cleaned everything up.

We breathed a sigh of relief when she seemed to relent and forgive us. She was now much more angry at JPO than she was at us.

While we went to make sure everything was cleaned up (because you never can be too sure), she went to yell at the staff of JPO. We met up with them again, and told them that she had been furious with us (which was a lie) and they said she had been furious at them too.

The entire group of SDKL (my group) then bonded over the process of screwing doors back on hinges. And discussing what we could do to get back at JPO. We didn't want to do anything that would harm people or property. We didn't want to do anything that could get us in real trouble. But we wanted to do something Good. Something that would get back at JPO.

The best we could think of at that moment was calling each of the staff members of JPO at 3:00 this morning, several times. So, we are now all planning on waking up at 3:00 AM, gathering around a speaker phone, and calling each dorm room, hanging up when they answer, waiting 10 minutes, then calling back again, and hanging up.

We are also having the RLC from LCM yell at us tomorrow morning, so that JPO thinks she is really mad at us. We are planning on getting back at them in a more severe manner, as soon as we come up with a good comeback.

Any suggestions? Something that will not harm the dorm property (that will not result in fines), something that is not illegal (such as pulling a fire alarm), but something that is very clever (like taking the doors off the hinges, and hiding them in the bathrooms).

I am back at school. All moved into my closet of a room. In the basement.
